On the 31st October, Regional Development Australia Southern Inland (RDASI) and Jo Marshall hosted a community consultation in Crookwell to gauge community support for the Australia Agriculture Centre (AAC). The meeting was held at the Crookwell Services Club, with almost 50 people coming along to learn more about the proposed centre.
The AAC is a multi-purpose facility aiming to educate, showcase and demonstrate technology and innovation in the agricultural industry. The centre will focus on two core activities; tourism and education.
With the average age of Australian farmers at 56, Project Manager, Jo Marshall, is passionate about educating and exposing future generations to the agricultural industry. With increasing domestic and international interest in where our food and fibre comes from, there is an opportunity to provide a real life experience of life on a farm. Whilst the centre is still in the concept stage, the centre proposes field production, small-scale manufacturing, energy initiatives, interactive and themed displays.
RDASI facilitated and introduced the community consultation. David Montgomery then talked about how the concept originated some 30 years go and Jo Marshall discussed the details of the proposed AAC. Following the presentation, the community were invited to provide their feedback and ask questions. Each comment and question were extremely positive and useful and confirmed to Jo that the AAC belongs in Crookwell.
“It was great to see so many key people attend the community consultation and hear their ideas and support for the concept,” she said.
“It is clear it is something that the community wants for Crookwell and I will be acting on the offers of support and assistance to bring this project to fruition.”
Jo thanked everyone who attended the consultation and showed their support. In terms of next steps, Jo will continue to confidently push the project forward.
“We will work to have the business case completed to present to possible investors.”
