On 21st November, Australia will celebrate their first ever National Agriculture Day. To mark this event, Regional Development Australia Southern Inland (RDASI) is holding an Ag Day BBQ in Goulburn. The new national initiative, National Agriculture Day, was introduced in order to celebrate the incredible contribution that farmers make to Australia.
Goulburn Ag Day BBQ will be held from 6.30pm on the 21st November at the Grace Millsom Function Centre in Goulburn.
The event will celebrate the history and future of Australian agriculture, with guest speakers reflecting on the history of agriculture in the region as well as looking forward to the exciting future ahead. It’s an opportunity for all members of the community to come together, thank their local farmers and celebrate Australian produce.
Angus Taylor MP will open the event, followed by an exciting line-up of guest speakers that include Matthew Lieschke (Local Land Services), Ted O’Kane (Department of Primary Industries), Mark Hedley (Australian Wool Network) and Kathleen Allen (Sheep Meat Council).
The BBQ will comprise local produce only, including Dewsburys Free Range Pork Sausages, with a number of stalls also showcasing local produce from the Southern Tablelands. The stalls will provide guests with the opportunity to taste some local produce and speak to local producers from the area. Parkesbourne Produce aims to change perceptions of what can be grown in the Southern Tablelands region by showcasing their wasabi amongst other products, whilst Yarralaw Springs Wines is delighted to present their cool climate wines.
Photographs and memorabilia will also be on display looking back on agriculture in Southern NSW. Entertainment for the night will be Goulburn local, Jamie Agius, who is a regular at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and local events.
Executive Officer of RDASI, Mareeca Flannery is looking forward to the inaugural Goulburn Ag Day BBQ.
“It’s great that so many organisations and businesses are on board for this event. It’s an exciting time in Australian agriculture with international markets seeking more and more of Australia’s high quality produce. Ag Day is a great excuse to bring everyone together to celebrate the significant contribution that farmers make not only to the Australian domestic market and economy but internationally as well.”
Project Officer, Camilla Staff, expressed that the event is free and open to everyone.
“Everyone is involved in the primary industries sector in one way or another, whether you are the farmer or the consumer. Everyone has a reason to get involved in the BBQ, to enjoy some local produce and meet some local farmers.”
RDASI would like to thank their sponsors for this event; Elders Goulburn, Divall's Earthmoving and Bulk Haulage, Local Land Services, Goulburn Mulwaree Council, NSW Farmers– Goulburn Branch, Goulburn Post, NSW Department of Primary Industries and Straw Services.
